Hong Kong is being ****** over by China, it's NOT the city it was and unfortunately for the people of Hong Kong it will only get worse. Anybody that thought China would stick to its promise of special dispensation for Hong Kong obviously don't understand the Chinese.
Hong Kong is having a tough time in a lot of ways, but it's still a fantastic city overall. It's also not very helpful to just give it up for dead, as it's still very much a lively and bustling city.

Been to both .London the history and language, but Hong Kong wow just wow.flying its endless green islands reaching port.with Kowloon on the left the City is alive with color and sound.
From the air islands looking like emeralds on a blue table...I take Hong Kong.
Lively and bustling, but not free. Just another Chinese city sadly.
Yea, there are some pretty bad limitations. It's a scale though, and Hong Kong is sort of in a grey zone where there's somewhat more freedoms and due process than those on the mainland. A lot of Chinese cities have some very good attributes to them, but they do run the risk of things going badly very quickly because the degree of control from the top means that they're one very bad leader / administration away from things going terribly awry with little recourse.
