I have shopped at Wegmans in Massachusetts and Loblaws all around the GTA and Wegmans comes out on top by a mile for me. Excellent quality, just a great experience all around.

...but best in the world?

Just looking at photos and one of their flyers, mind you, but their stores look like a lot of good grocery stores. They seem to be doing what other stores in the US and Canada tend to do. Make it more " European "...one Wegman's I saw used Boulangerie instead of bakery.

Incredible grocery shopping is done all over the world, especially food halls in Japan and the UK.

I just said I like it more than Loblaws. How could anyone really determine what the best grocery experience is in the entire world lol

Either way I enjoy breaking up my shopping. I have a place I buy fish, a place I buy meat, cheese, etc...but if I am shopping under one roof Wegmans is pretty damn good. I like them more than Whole Foods as well.

My response was more directed at ABQConvict's post about it possibly being the best chain in the world.

I agree, best is sooooooooo subjective, as I've said in earlier posts.

Well, that doesn't mean much. North America's food traditions come from Europe. I am pretty sure you can find a bakery in Canada, outside Quebec, called a "Boulangerie" and run by anglos with nary a French connection since William the Bastard's day.

Oh, and my comment about Wegman's being "best in the world" was a bit of toungue-in-cheek hyperbole based on how its fans talk about it. I do believe it is a good store, but 'best in the world' is subjective by any measure.

My favorite supermarket is Jungle Jim's in Fairfield, Ohio. For me, it is the best in the world. For other's, maybe not.

It does mean much. It's a marketing strategy purposely used by some grocery stores. I'm not saying it's wrong, just that in the context of this thread, it's interesting that European cache in non-European stores sells. It works in Japan as well.

Canada's produce is terrible (It makes sense, Canada is not agriculture land).

The best produce I've seen it's in Asia and Latin America.
You gotta be joking right?

No one took their post seriously. It's so patently false.

I think Wegmans is great. The first time I went into one of their larger stores I was just blown away. A bit pricey but still awesome.

I don't know if Wegmans is the best grocery chain in the world but it's one of the most impressive I've witnessed.
