Depends on who you count as indigenous or native in NZ. The Maori population alone in % in Auckland is about the same as the total aboriginal population in Winnipeg. But then if you count Pacific Islanders as aboriginal too, they are almost as numerous as the Maoris.
outsiders usually think of NZ as a white majority country.
Once they are in NZ they see an equal amount of white & pacific new zealanders, speaking the same NZ english and eat the same western food.
Maori culture seems to have penetrated the mainstream in New Zealand more than aboriginal culture has in Canada, including Winnipeg.
These are superficial examples and I will be showing my ignorance of NZ here, but it seems to me there are many more visible examples of aboriginal culture in NZ that spring to mind: the Haka by the All-Blacks, movies like When We Were Warriors that get international acclaim.
Canada's aboriginal culture and reality is more hidden from view.
Well Maori make up 10% of the population of NZ or more, while aborigines only 2% of Australians. Considering the much smaller size and population it's no surprise they're more prominent.

It is closer to 15% of New Zealand's Population that are Maori i think, our aboriginal population has finally got up to 3% of total.
I also believe that the Auckland metro area no longer has a majority white population, or is very close to loosing it.

Probably Auckland, for the above stated reasons and the presence of so many related Pacific Islander groups, which probably bolsters the "feel" compared to Winnipeg, which has few, say, Navajo or Indigenous Mexicans, for example.
What percentage native is Winnipeg anyway? I never thought of it as particularly native but I have no idea...
