So far has been Italy. Plenty of art and history (the art surrounds you, everywhere there are magnificently sculpted fountains), wonderful food, friendly people, beautiful music (often heard people singing opera outside!), and trains - when not on strike - that go everywhere!
I've only been to Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, and Israel. I've studied much of North Africa. I am going to have to go with Lebanon. Ski in the morning, spend the afternoon at the beach, and enjoy the sunset with a nice bottle of Lebanese red wine.
Technically, I think the Croatian coast is in the Adriatic. Ditto the Greek islands.
But I think I understand what you're asking.
I really liked the Dalmiatian coast (Croatia.) The color of the water is exquisite. The people were very friendly. Things were not too expensive once we got out of Dubrovnik.
But I also have very much enjoyed the Greek Islands, the southeast of Spain, the Amalfi coast of Italy, and the south of France.
France had the best food by far, though Italy was close behind.
Would love to get to Tunisia or Malta some day.
Slovenia. Cheaper than some other countries near it, beautiful scenery, and few American tourists. Many people seem to have never even heard of it, when I talk about it people usually either look confused, assume that I mean Slovakia, or even ask if I mean "Czechoslovakia" as if that still exists.
Don't think that much can match the Greek Isles, especially Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes. The culture, food and people there are really great and the ruins can take you back as much if further than any of the listed countries.
Cyprus is also very similar.

Slovenia even has a little bit of coastline.
