I've been to Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Turkey & Egypt. I picked Croatia because it is the land of my parents and ancestors. Lots of personal history there, plus it is a beautiful country. Not to say the others aren't - as they all are, in their own ways. Just more of an emotional and spiritual connection with me, Croatia.
Second on my list would be Italy. Amazing country is so many ways.
I won't scoff. You are not alone.
We sailed past Albania on our way to Corfu in 2001, and I remember how undeveloped (and unspoiled) it looked.
In 2006, the next time we were "in the neighborhood" (Croatia) I looked into going to Tirana or Saranda, but it just didn't work out, we did not have enough time.
Some day!
It's not fair to assess when I've only been to two of the countries -- Spain and Italy. I voted for Italy, though, because of many of the things mackinac81 mentioned and the fact that it's a photographer's dream. If I were feasible, I'd love to spend a year there just roaming around the country in an endless feast and photo shoot.
People scoff at me when I tell them that Albania is the holiday destination of tomorrow.
It's got great weather, fascinating history, nice beaches. The Albanian revolutions is coming. ALBANIA ROCKS.
Remember where you first heard it.
Ah yeah I was the one who voted for the Big A. I suspect I could be the first and last.
Albania is still underdeveloped thus still has lots of unspoiled forests.
Remember Albania is a muslim country and will never be a big party place.
It is however cheap and appealing to those on a budget, BUT crime is high. For example, its the capital of stolen vehicles in the world......to say the least!
