When growing up...my mother used two terms of endearment towards me...
"my little boobalas" and "smoutches." We were talking about those two words lately. I simply have no idea where the later came from. I do not know if I am even spelling that last word correctly. We learned awhile back a little something about the origins of the "boobalas" word. My brother dated an Israeli girl who once told us that "my little boobalas" was a Yiddish word! We do not have Jewish hertiage, although my mother's father grew up in a heavily Jewish area. That's where she must have picked it up from. Anyway, I did an internet search for the other term of endearment, "smoutches." I could not find anything. Does anyone have any idea where this term of endearment came from? My mother always used it to me when I was a child. Does anyone at least know the correct spelling? I do not. Thanks.
