Great link, Kob, but I had searched Wiki long ago & sadly had no luck. My speculation is he's not well known enough. Spent 2-hrs searching yesterday. I guess it comes down to how much time I want to spend looking. Thank you for your help.

Already been mentioned twice... the author is British, a male, modern story.

Anything on any of these lists ring a bell?

50 Best Children's Books - Life - Stylist Magazine
The best children's books ever | Books | The Guardian
The 20 greatest children's books ever - Telegraph

Sounds like a cute book. I hope you could post back here if you find it/remember it.

I'm stumped. I did some searching; hate to give up when I'm on a mission, but I had no luck narrowing it down.

Good luck Patanjali!

Hmmm, I am a stubborn searcher. You could try asking a question here:

Thank you kindly Eastern... I think you're going to make me a children's book addict! Didn't find what I was looking for, but, oh so many cute books on those links. I love a well written children's book. A bit of escapism as an adult to read them, yeah?

I'd only taken a cursory look, but will search more in depth over the week. Sadly, I've been immersed in software books over the past few days & will be into the next... would rather be in faerie tale land.

I see your additional link below. Thank you again kindly. Yes, I'll surely let you know of my results.

Thank you, PJ. I'm the same... want to bore my teeth into something & not give up. Of course, that also includes a good burger!

I'll still search a bit later in the week utilizing all the links everyone has been so kind to post, then will more than likely let it go. I've been 'mildly' looking for years & every time I'm in a book store, I wander over to the kids' section to peruse covers (I'll recognize it if I see the cover), but a book title or author's name is really what's necessary to make this puzzle an easy adventure.

If I don't find it, it's okay... wasn't meant to be. Maybe someday I'll come across a used copy at a flea market. Wouldn't that be a nice ending to my children's book mystery...

And, the clumsy, little blonde girl in the summery pink dress was finally reunited with her book. The end.

Fingers crossed.
