People always blame spell-check for people spelling bad, but in my case it actually HELPED me, because I could see how the word was supposed to be spelt. Like I used to spell 'definitely as 'definately' as a teenager but after enough time seeing it on spellchecker I corrected it and changed that habit.

If nothing else, "spelt" is a type of wheat, so spell checker should not be flagging the word.

However, I do believe that spelt is a less used but correct form.

Edit: I see that OP is in Australia and spelt is proper British English, so has not been used incorrectly.

Both are used here but I tend to use 'spelt' (or dreamnt, leapt.etc) more. According to the article it dominated in the 19th century.

You mean dreamt?
Spell check has made my poor typing skills much more obvious but has saved me time proofreading (I have to watch the keyboard as I type)

It has helped me. I think everyone has a few words that are problematic. One of mine was "weird." If I write it wrong--wierd--and it shows up in red, I know I'm wrong. Another one: pronunciation. hmmmm, got it right.

Those aren't the best examples, those are words that spell check taught me a long time ago. But, yes, seeing the immediate correction drills it into my brain.
