I figured the "Writing" forum is the proper place for this thread - it's the written portion of the song that's misinterpreted.

We've all heard some catchy songs but didn't quite understand the lyrics - what's your favorite misheard line?

Elton John released quite a few songs that had me guessing the lyrics. One of my favorites was Rocket Man. The actual line in the song is...

...Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone...

The line, as I heard it, became...

...Rocket Man, burning down the strings of parasols...

How the heck did I come up with that?

I like your version way more, DG.

Our family fav. Elton John one was my dad's interepretation of Benny & the Jets. He thought it was Penny in the Gents. It just became normal to say it after a while of mocking

Yeah, he was blinded by the light,
cut loose like a deuce,
another runner in the night
...

I thought he was singing this:

Blinded by the light,
ripped off like a douche,
you know the roller in the night...
