The first time I saw the word "menus," I thought it rhymed with venus and genus. I figured from context it mean food (this was before all the pull down menus). Also, I thought "misled" was pronounced "missiled" and the context almost confirmed it. This is in addition to alternate pronunciations, such as "feb-you-ary."

Many mispronunciations are cultural. "Ask" becomes "Axe," "TomAto" becomes "tomaato." "Charlotte" is pronounced differently as the name of a town in Vermont, and "Arab" in Alabama is properly pronounced Ay-rab. (The real name was a misspelling of Arad Thompson, the son of the town founder.)

It's actually pronounced kuh-TOE-nee-aster.
