I've twice in past years attended the ASJA conference in NYC, which is directed toward journalists and non-fiction writers.

This year the Writers Digest Conference is in Manhattan, next weekend. I'm going to attend (but commute from NJ as the hotel is not in the budget). This one emphasizes fiction.

I was wondering if anyone has stories to share about their experiences at writers' conferences.

Writers have always been an entertaining crowd. Writing is somewhat a solitary endeavor and I think we are all just happy to get out. Interact with people instead of staring at a computer screen. I think you'll at least have fun.

Oh I'll definitely interact. I used to belong to a writer's group. It sort of disbanded after a while because life got in the way.

I enjoy the panels.

My question was just to hear about other people's experiences.

I attended a couple of small conferences long ago. I don't know what I expected, but the speakers were uninspiring and after a couple of hours I left. I vowed then to never do it again, but I did. The result was much the same. I would rather read a really good novel.
