Indexing

What are your thoughts on indexing? I want a first-rate index and am not sure that I can produce, even with software. Recommendations?

What I know about indexing would fit in the head of a small pin. You can't index until you paginate. You cannot paginate until the last word is written and the editing is complete. Software does the rest. My cousin does it for me on an old computer using old software.
