The phrase "if you will" should be banned. It is certainly over-used. A fun list to start the New Year. I'm okay with shortening "application" to "app."

I didn't click the link, but if the useless word "empowered" is not on it, I'll retch.

I'm okay with app, too. It's nothing new, it's just that i-phones made it more commonly known.
The comments below the article are hilarious--both the ones who offer other words to ban, as well as the comments pointing out the futility and effete attitude of trying to forbid catch-phrases and words.
As someone else mentioned, "FAIL" has had its moment and I wish it could go back to just being a regular verb, not an adjective.

Every time I hear "in this economy" or "in this market", I just tune out.

The word "hot" needed to be banned five+ years ago!! It used to pertain to temperature. The most annoying, over used worn out word, period.

For that matter, once upon a time the word "gay" wasn't a reference to a particular lifestyle, either.

^^Teenagers use "gay" to mean "stupid." My 12-year-old nephew thinks his 9-year-old sister's games are gay. Etc.
