What is the word to describe someone who is always trying to be what he/she is not? Someone who pretends to be what he/she really is not in order to impress others

Yes. This is the word that perhaps best fits the exact description the OP requested. "Affecter" would be the noun. "Dissembler" and "feigner" have similar uses.
