June is a good time. When you leave after about the 4th of July the grass starts to turn brown around most of the towns. June is still pretty lush. As was mentioned before, that is a good time to see animal babies in the park. Be sure to go to Grand Teton as well. That is prettier than Yellowstone IMHO. If you are planning on camping in the park be aware that it does get very cold at night. I have seen frost in August.

How chilly does it get at nighttime around Memorial Day? We have a tent that stays comfortable in about 40 degrees F.

I saw many years where in mid june the higher elevations of the park still had lots of snow. We rarely went up in the summer, too crowded plus once summer started we were all working hard with few days off. Getting up there in June some years were great, normal/big snow years still lots of snow. The landscape is pretty start that time of year as well. The geyser basins and the low elevation areas tho are usually free of snow. Conversly, if your into waterfalls, June is the best time to visit.

It is best to have a warm sleeping bag at the very least if you are camping around Memorial Day nyyfanatic85. That is still pretty early in the summer and it can get below 40 at night still. Make sure you also have a bag that is somewhat water resistant. I made the mistake of taking one out last weekend that was not and I paid for it when it got to 29 degrees and I had a ton of condensation in the tent. I ended up with a bit of a cold. And consider sleeping with a hat on if it gets that cold. Trust me.

*Snickers and points* ^^^^

He said Memorial Day is "early in the summer!"

Memorial Day weekend in Wyoming almost always sees cold rain on the prairies and wet snow in the mountains. Almost always.

It's not that high!!!

Cody is 5230 just slightly higher than Denver and Yellowstone is just over 7000 in a few places. The Chief Joe Hwy and the Beartooth are the highest elevations in the area. Many a time in June, halfway up Dead Indian Pass we've had to turn around and return to the highway because the snow made the road impassable.
