Good day to all. I have been in Wyoming, mainly the Rock Springs area for over five months now. I moved here in October 2010 from Miami, FL (a looooong drive I might add) for a new job with the Feds over at the airport. I had many reservations about it mainly because from what i read from these forums. Not anymore.

People here that I have meet, so far, the majority are friendly, kind, and outgoing. From resturaunts to hotels, people here are very nice to be around with. When people ask me where I am from they are shocked to know I lived in South Florida and start a conversation with me on why I moved here. I found that to be very refreshing to know that you can start a pleseant conversation with strangers, which is something I treasure.

Once the weather gets to a point that becomes more and more pleseant, I do plan on doing more outdoor activities. There were only two places that I enjoyed down in Miami. Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. During my time in the Everglades, I would spend hours upon hours out in the back country just taking pictures and enjoying mother natures beauty. So I do plan on going to Teton and Yellowstone very soon. Bfore winter hit, I made a few visits to Casper and I just feel in love with the scenery on the way there and back.

Yes the winters are harsh at times, but there is some good that come out of it though, I now know the definition of what cold really is and I now have been acclimated to the the weather here.

With that said, I think I am going to enjoy not only Rock Springs, but also the rest of Wyoming as well.

Make a run up the road past Kemmerer and go to Fossil Butte National Monument, you can do that as a easy day trip

It's nice to hear you like it. Attitude is 95% of of adapting, and it sounds like you have an excellent attitude about your move.

"Spring" in Wyoming is as much of a challenge as winter, as we keep expecting nice days that never seem to materialize. April has always been my least favorite month of the year in Wyoming for that reason. And May is almost as iffy. Then comes the short and wondrous summer, normally followed by a great Indian Summer. Enjoy it when you get the chance!

Summer isn't short in Rock Springs, other areas of Wyoming yes but not here. It was in the 80's through October last year and that's normal from my experience in this area over the last 7 years. It does take a while to get to summer being that it doesn't start until June but it does linger on into fall. I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience here! I hated it here and then I moved to DE for 7 months, that was all it took to make RS look like paradise to me!

If you haven't already you should check out Jackson. It's nice for a change of scenery.
