I don't have a huge garden, but I've been finding holes in the plant leaves. This morning, I saw a bunch of small grasshoppers on the leaves.

On the Internet, I've read about the grasshopper infestation, but all articles and info are dated last year, and didn't find any way to get rid of them.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or are my plants doomed?

We haven't seen any grasshoppers yet this year. Of course with the flooding, we have an over abundance of skeeters.

Getting rid of grasshoppers? I have no idea. Nothing I've ever done helped. Sorry.

Thanks, ElkHunter. You may have an issue with grasshoppers as the summer gets hotter.

In the meantime, I called the WY Agricultural Extension office, and spoke with a really nice guy, who gave me some potential solutions: A spray with the active ingredient Pyrethrun, which is a natural insecticide in Crysanthemums, Eco Brand grasshopper bait, and NoLo Bait. Also suggested putting a gauzy type netting over the plants.

Listing the potential solutions, in case anyone else has or is having the same problem.

I'll probably try Pyrethrun and the netting.

Wait 'til the deer discover your garden, ElkHunter. I was tempted to plant a couple of cantaloupe plants, but figured the growing season wasn't long enough. What kind did you plant?

I have 3 tomato plants, 1 yellow neck squash plant & a few basil plants in o one raised bed, and bee balm, lavender, basil, chives, some kind of blue bells - I've forgotten the name - and marigolds in another raised bed.

Both beds are off the deck, so I fenced in three sides of the one bed with the tomato plants. I've had some people tell me deer don't eat tomatoes, and others tell me they do, so if they do, I'm hoping the fence will keep them at bay. Unless they crawl under the deck & attack them from behind!

Do chickens eat grasshoppers?

I have deer in my yard every evening. Pepper plants are not a problem. I have the cantelope in the middle of them as well as one tomatoe plant. The other tomatoe plant is a hanging plant and they can't get at it.

Not sure what kind of cantalope. I remember when I planted them that they were short season type of hybreds, but don't remember the specific kind.

BTW, I never keep the little tage thingy's that your supposed to mark them with.
