Does anyone know why analog scanners have gone digital in the Torrington area? Radio shack says Lingle, Ft laramie and those around us can buy digital scanners get the codes but Torrington isnt able to get the codes..they say they have been encripted or whatever. Why even carry the digital scanners if you cant get the codes?

Default Wyolink Torrington

Brina7:

Just joined and read your note of a couple of months ago. Hopefully you check back. Anyway Radio Shack in Torrington is a poor source of information. The current system that Torrington and Goshen county are on is called Wyolink. It is digital but hard to explain, do a search for "Wyolink", you will come up with a lot of info. Anyway the Wyolink system has very few encrypted talk groups and only those are really for security reasons. Like DEA and ATF. Torrington and Goshen County are free and open, no encryption. Digital is like analog except they have changed the terminology. Repeaters now are called TSYS or trunk systems. Rather than channels they are now called talk groups. And would take to much time to explain. Anyway I currently listen to three TSYS sites from my home in Torrington. They are Torrington, Virgin Hill - east of Wheatland - and North Albin. I am currently using a GECOMM PSR 600. A little pricey but all digital scanners are. Also I use ARCPRO500 on my computer to program the scanner and save to a file. With what I have saved to files, it would take less than five minutes to program a new PSR6oo. So if you need more info send me a note to dlr@communicomm.co. I doubt I check this website very often. I will be glad to help you out.
