I will be driving - a small car (no 4wd or anything) from Boise to the east coast (headed down south). I am planning the route From Boise going to either Rock Springs or Rawlins and wanted to know road conditions - passing through any mountains, any road closures, things to be aware of? I know it's now March and hoping 80 roads should be fine. Will be traveling with a pet too. Will be leaving the end of this week/weekend or this coming week.

Then from WY will be stopping somewhere in NE between Lexington and Grand Island. Assuming it's all flat but may be mistaken and also are road conditions okay? It's been warmer in general for the Boise area but not sure what is happening for WY/NE. Any help will be appreciated.

Now AWD or snow tires etc. Again, just a very small car.

If you're heading out soon, the recent above normal temps and little moisture now have I-80 completely clear across WY, and NE also looks good.

Of course, it's still winter season here and a wet/cold front can change that. Best to keep an eye on the weather forecasts and if there's snow forecast, check the WYDOT road reports for adverse conditions. and plan your travel time accordingly.

The tough spots IMO are just east of Evanston at miles 20ish-30ish (series of big rollers), the Elk Mountain area between Rawlins and Laramie (tends to get pounded with snow/wind), and the big climb just east of Laramie. It's been a pretty tame winter for the most part, but it's been known to snow in June out here, so you never know. Definitely check WYDOT for conditions/closures/webcams ahead of time.

Thank you both and for the wydot info. Looked it up. I see road closures and advisories and nothing for 80. Hope I'm looking in the right place. Heading out today. Thanks!

Thanks. I made the trip and weather was perfect. Warm. Beat the rain. There were some windy patches but it was perfect timing. Nice weather the whole way - no snow!
