Yes, we are looking for info/help again. At least that's what this forum is about, right?

Anyway, don't necessarily know why, but, apparently, those that rent an apartment in the smaller cities of Wyoming, stay in them. Just checked Cody and Sheridan and very few apartments available, like only three or four. Both areas look great to us, but "looking great" doesn't give someone a place to live. And, we sure can't afford to buy. Checked out Casper, but their crime rate is questionable.

Now we are back considering Laramie. There are apartment complexes there. Don't know how much partying is done there, due to the University being there, but.......

IOW, things were starting to look good for a 4-day trip up to Sheridan, but with the cost of a rental car, hotel stay and food, it could be just too costly to end up not finding an apartment there if we did move there next summer.

Just got an e-mail reply from the Chamber of Commerce in Sheridan telling us of the bad rental property availability and housing is in Sheridan. I was told to check a couple of close towns in the area, Dayton and Ranchester, but neither had what we need. So, for now, saving the money we were going to spend on a trip to Sheridan and take a weekend and go to Laramie. Was there some 16 years ago for a rodeo and downtown parade and liked it. Even stopped at Curt Gowdy State Park for a few minutes.

Guess housing shortages are worse in America than I thought.

Tried to warn you of that a few month ago. It's a problem in Laramie also and most other towns in the state. And you are correct, nationwide. They are out there but it's going to take some work to get one.

Yes, we know about Wait Lists. We've never been a part of one, but the complex we are in, had one and maybe still does. We were told, by a senior that lives in the building right across from ours, that all of the 55+ places he checked out, have a 3-year Wait List. A 3-year Wait List..........that's totally insane!

All we know is, we can't move unless we have an apartment available to rent somewhere. Won't put everything into storage and live at an Extended Stay Hotel. Have done that before, but got an apartment fairly quick, like within a week.
But, "never say never", so.

It looks like many of the rentals in Laramie are very close to the university. Didn't you say you wanted to get away from young folks? Why are you considering a college town then? And is there a VA hospital in Laramie? Thought that is important to you too?

Have you checked Evanston, Gillette, and Lusk?

Laramie in town, average age just under 26. Nearly 50% of population is 24 and under. 65 and older is about 8% compared to national average of about 14.5%.

Loveland, average age of 40. Only 30% 24 and under. 65 and older well above national average at about 18%.

Wyoming as a whole, about 10% 65 and older, well below national average. Cody, 21%. Sheridan, about 17.5%.

To put it another way, that's about 2500 "seniors" in a city of 32,000. Sheridan is half the size but has more seniors. If I wanted a town with fewer young people, guess I'd take my chances on getting on all the waitlists in Sheridan. The good thing about Laramie is it's an easy drive from Loveland. Husband and I have done it multiple times roundtrip from Fort Collins on the same day. So one could see Laramie in a day (or weekend overnight) and still have money and time for a trip to Sheridan.

But getting back to the questions I asked above: Didn't you say you wanted to get away from young folks? Why are you considering a college town then? And is there a VA hospital in Laramie? Thought that is important to you too?
