Has your gas bill from your power company gone up perhaps twice as much if not more than your last bill for gas?

We don't live in a subdivision but I've been following a thread about this exact thing on a local classified FB selling page. People are extremely angry. In Cody.

NG average price across the US doubled from Feb 2022 to Aug 2022: from $12 to $25 per thousand cubic foot. Now its price has dropped considerably, back down to $15 ptcf in Nov 2022 and was still going downward at that time.

Regulated utilities pricing tends to be behind the supply price curve so right now, you are seeing the price hike from late last summer. So wait for the price drop to work through and see where you are.

The company I have is PG&E and am suppose to get some type of credit back per our regulated state agency that regulates PG&E.

Typically my gas & electric bill used to be under $100.
Last month it was $130.
This month it was $230.

Others here spent anywhere from $400 to $800+

Unless your sate regulation agency and gov't leaders wants PG&E to go out of business, then the costs to PG&E have to be passed on to the customer. You might gets a credit but the surge in NG prices are going to have to be borne by the end users (you and other customers) in some way. It might be in the form of slightly higher bills over a longer term to make up the added NG cost spike to PG&E.

And of course, you are in CA nowhereman, so this cost might be all put behind some political smoke and mirrors, like the lawsuits proceeding against PG&E over the fires a few years ago. All the costs, even any fire lawsuit awards against PG&E, will all be borne by the customers in some fashion. Even if the state took over the utilities, then it will all be borne by the residents of CA unless they have some tricks to push it onto other states...like through Federal Gov't 'slush' funding, like highways, Medicaid, title 8 welfare, etc. (But AFAIK, utility operating costs have not been put into any Federal slush fund....)

You are not alone as all states saw this big price spike from last fall. The timing of the price spike is varying between states as the method and timing of passing on the cost varies state to state.

Regardless of the political rhetoric, tricks, slush funds, etc., the cost all has to be paid. No free lunch and all that jazz. Every debt gets paid eventually in some form.
