So it's worse now as this story was just released on July 28, 2023.

Actually took the time to go to the social media page listed in the original article. Couple of things:

1. Police Chief is new - has only been in his position for six months (so the chief from the 2022 article I linked is no longer there). New chief inherited the problem and it will take some time to wrap his arms around it.

2. Chief went to city council meeting last night (? I think it was) - requested and received officer raises. Good for retention and recruitment both.

3. After scanning the FB page (called StepUpRiverton if anyone else wants to check it out) - the group is floundering around a bit trying to figure out what meaningful action they should take. Having said that, there seems to be a motivated group of citizens who want to be involved. And that's a very good thing.

4. Riverton is a small microcosm of what is happening on much larger scales in much larger cities all over the country. Right now Riverton is in the early but painful stages of social decline. They'll either fix it or collapse will be predictable and eventual. I hope they figure it out.

Steer clear of Riverton. Better off in Lander, Buffalo, or Gillette?

For being such a despicable town, Riverton real estate is sure selling well. They will have trouble recruiting police officers based on them not being able to afford decent housing. They will apply but end up not taking the job. Also there is talk of relocating state agencies to Riverton based on its central location.

Real Estate is so expensive in Riverton that police officers can't afford to live there??
You would think that the real estate would be alot less because of the crime rate?
Officers here start at a salary of $100,000+.

It's like that everywhere

Chicago has much higher crime rate and housing prices doubled in last five years. Same with Atlanta and NYC.

Yeah, but really - who wants to live in Kali. I don't see people rushing there
