One of my comments when I posted: "As this petition continues to pick up steam across the state, expect to read additional news articles - some warning of the difficulty and expense of implementation, and some warning of other ways government will look to, to make up for the financial shortfall resulting from decreased property taxes. They have the money right now, and will not want to give it up without a fight."

This ballot initiative is being driven by Brent Bien (who ran for governor last cycle and lost to Gordon by a wide margin). Brent is VERY passionate about this issue, and is currently traveling the state repeatedly, working to get the necessary almost 30,000 signatures needed to allow WY citizens to vote for the issue in November. The entire issue is giving politicians across the state major heartburn.

Thank you for this!! I will watch and assuredly vote yes. One has to be an absolute simpleton not to see the horrific waste within the county governments! Divis sure does sound like a rhino with the statements he's made. We've heard the same crap for the 3 decades we've been here!!

Find a petition somewhere in your area, and please sign it. Without 30,000 signatures by Feb 12 it won't make it onto the ballot in 2024. WY citizens would have to wait until 2026 to try this again.

In order to sign the petition you must have voted in the last general election - if you did not your name would have been purged from the voter rolls. If that's the case stop by your local courthouse, get registered again to vote, then sign the petition. For more information contact Brent Bien on FB. Please tell your friends and neighbors to sign the petition as well.

Wyoming was suppose to be the place to be free from government interference compared to other states. So I see that it's the local government who will get you. There are far worse states that have worse governments with more restrictions and taxes than Wyoming. Sorry to see this kind of crap coming to Wyoming.

seen lot of mill levy vote fail over the years, like Recreation districts, swimming pools, extra for the hospital, Conservation districts, and before they change the school construction there were a few of those that didn't pass

Luckily I don't have children to worry about in this part of that initiative.

One of the ladies collecting signatures in my immediate area in Park County has been told that she needs to turn in her petition (with whatever signatures she has collected) by January 31. So if you are interested in signing a petition please track one down quickly.

Again, if 30,000 signatures are not collected on the petitions that are floating around the state, it will NOT make it onto the ballot for a vote in November of this year.

We live in Florida not Wyoming (but have spent summers exploring)but seeing this post hits home over the lack of transparency in so many referendums and initiatives.

The school board here proposed a 1 mill increase to increase teachers pay. People felt bad and voted it in. The school board never contacted the county tax commissioner before proposing the 1 mil. To make a long story short because of the rapid escalation of home prices here and the county and city not holding the tax rates this year but raising them the school commission collected several million more than they needed and everyone’s taxes went up substantially. Only 75% can be used for teachers salary’s and the other 25% was never explained on where it would be targeted.

We see this so often where the voters read these referendums on the ballots and it’s double speak.

A few years back there was a referendum that was against property owners getting getting help with solar instillations but the way it was written it made you think voting for it was a win for homeowners.
