with no gay bar. Even towns which are smaller than Cheyenne (places like Las Cruces, New Mexico and Dothan, Alabama) have them. Some even smaller towns which don't have a gay bar have an "alternative" bar where people who are considered weird, intellectual, goth, artsy or communist gather. Gays sometimes frequent those bars when there is no gay bar. Surely Cheyenne has one of those. Which one is it? Surely Laramie has one too. Which one is there?

I went to grad school in Laramie.

While not a bar, I might say Coal Creek coffee had a little of that feel. There was one across the street on Grand Ave., when I was living there, similar to Coal Creek, but closed. Open mike nights, folk bands with anti-establishment themes.

There is a vegetarian restaurant (sweet Melissas) as well as a health/organic natural food place that had a hippie-granola vibe.

I suppose the Buckhorn was SLIGHTLY alternative but still with a strong western cowboy feel. (Many mounted animals).

One thing about Laramie was that is was very none cliquish. Hippies and cowboys drank at the same place and no one cared.

There was also the Terrapin shop. Psychedelic clothes, etc.

I don't know as much about Cheyenne. I went there every now and then certainly to shop, etc. but don't know much about the bars.

Well, back in the 70's & 80's the Hitching Post was known for that but that was a long time ago....

As a confirmed artsy intellectual I am sure you must be looking for the bars I hang out in - good luck.
