One good thing is the snow out here is a "dryer" snow, so it gets a little bit better traction.
As long as you take it slow, stay calm and focused you will do great. Also ease the breaking, don't heavily use your break, breaking to much can cause you to skid. If you do start to skid, turn into it and it will bring you back on the road. My husband was going over a pass and driving only 30 mph and skid once cause he hit a patch of ice, turned into the skid and went back on the road no problems.

Also if you have a cell utilize 511, it will give you the current road conditions.

I am a little calmer after talking to my dad, too. He said the same thing...it's not that cold yet so the ground isn't that cold either.

I am a cautious driver by nature. It's the other crazies I worry about. I'm used to a lot of road rage drivers, tailgaters, etc. I have always said that if I can drive in Houston I can drive anywhere.

I have a front wheel drive vehicle...should I be ok in that?

Also, how necessary are snow tires? I have gotten mixed reviews.
I have front wheel drive in my honda also. Front wheel drive is supposed to be a lot better than rear wheel in snow.

I agree with Kristynwy. I've had front-wheel, rear-wheel, 4-wheel, and I think my front-wheel drive cars handled the best. They were usually small cars and didn't "plow" snow the best, but react like I think they should on snow and ice.
