As a former frequent visitor--and maybe future resident--of the great town of Sheridan, I was wondering how the recent recession has affected you guys? How was the summer tourism biz? I know the unemployment rate in Sheridan has always been microscopic, but what is it nowadays?
Hope you guys are fine, and we may see ya soon...

Well things have slowed down a little bit here... Tourism was slower this past year as well.
It really depends on what industry you are in. Coal is slowing a little, Methane has definitely slowed down as well as over in Gillette significantly.

A lot more rentals available though. Housing prices are started to soften, and I have seen a few short sales starting to pop up in the market here as well.

What specific industry are you curious about? How much experience do you have in your field ect?

Kristy mentioned a slow down in coal. Decker Coal just had a 5 day Mandatory shut down. Nobody worked. It's either that or layoffs start.

It's not looking good. My son works out at Decker. Right now, nobody is upset because they are just tickled they got 5 unexpected days of Elk Hunting. But they are grumbling about what's going on. Wyoming is talking about re-opening Big Horn Coal out by Acme. But yet places like Decker and Spring Creek are slowing down something fierce.

So the mining jobs around here are in jeopardy. Course, if those are in jeopardy, the railroad slows also. If the railroad slows, people get bumped down to Gillette. Gillette railroaders get bumped down to Edgemont South Dakota and so on.

That also means that many people will be taking jobs around town that are enticing new growth.

Boom and bust, and it looks like it's not Boom right now.

Yeah my friend in Buffalo, her husband works for the railroad and everyone below him has been laid off, he has some seniority though so he has been able to keep his job, but he works at all times of the day sometimes now...
