We are planning to move from the West Coast and we're considering either an area outside of Charlotte or outside of Raleigh. Any thoughts about that comparison?

If we decide to move to the Charlotte region, does anyone know of an area that we could get at least 5 acres, and preferrably more, for less than 250K? We don't want to be farther than an hour from the city because of work/commuting, but we don't want to be in the city at all.

Also, I am Mexican and look it. We need to go somewhere that I will be welcomed. Please forgive me if that sounds strange, I just need to be honest in our search. Truly, I have no idea what to expect, so if the aforementioned seems naive, it is (smile).

Plus, we are conservatives.

Please guide me/us in the right direction. We want friendly, lots of land, conservative, quiet, but near enough to the City. Please help.

Thank you!

There are lots of areas all around Charlotte where you could get acreage for that price range. Here's an introductory look: CarolinaHome.com : Search Results

Good luck in your search!

Are you talking about just the acreage or acreage and a house for that price range? If it is just acreage you can find something easily and fairly close. If you are looking at a house and acreage you will definately be further out. If you have kids or plan to have kids look into Clover, SC, they have great schools and land is very cheap and you would easily be within an hour of Charlotte if you stick to the eastern part of Clover.

Much will depend on exactly where you are working though. Are you talking about uptown Charlotte?

My family and I moved from Southern California to Charlotte a few years ago. I truly understand your concerns about "looking Mexican". There isn't a huge mexican population out here but that is starting to change. I would check out Union County and the areas East and West of Charlotte. Check out the web site Carolina Buyers Market they can help you find what you are looking for. Are you looking just for land or land with a home on it also? Good Luck! We are SO happy that we made the move!

Default acreage AND a home on the land

Hi there,

I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my post. We'd like a home on the land, too. We don't want to build, especially because we like slightly older homes (not too old) - basically not a new/planned community.

Thank you for your responses, they are greatly appreciated. Feel free to keep them coming

I doubt you can get a home AND 5 acres for $250K unless you live REALLY FAR OUT from Charlotte. Like, in the country. But you COULD probably get 5 acres for the $250K and a shack closer to Charlotte.

I've spent a huge amount of time on the MLS and various FSBO sites, and know that you can indeed find an older home and 5 acres for under $250k. My budget is $150k and I have identified numerous possibilities. My search has extended to Clover, SC as well as up into areas W and NW of Charlotte.

We too like older homes that we can fix up (cosmetically, not structurally), rural life, and to be away from subdivisions and developments. We are used to water from a well and our own septic system. We like to be as off the grid as possible. :-)

Use the various mapping possibilities on the web (Google is great) and try Charlotte Uptown Condos: Charlotte NC Condos: www. CharlotteHomeAndCondo.com or the Allen Tate site for searching. Both let you refine your search for acreage, square footage, age of home, etc.

Good luck!

Ok, the first sentence above contradicts the next one. It's also ironic that you are posting on the internet

Abcornwell, thank you for your suggestions. I didn't find them to be contradictory at all. I will follow you suggestions. We have also seen some on Clover.
With appreciation!
