Looking at the demographics, is it safe to raise children of mixed ethnicities there, how about some Mexican, Hawaiian, Filipino white babies? I am looking to relocate from California, and I just want to make sure my children are not discriminated against because of the color of their skin. They are use to living in the melting pot of California!!!

They'll be fine. The Charlotte metro is pretty diverse.

I think it will depend on the location you move into and the schools the kids go to. We were concerned when we moved to Indian Land, but then started noticing a very diverse group of kids from all nations getting on the bus. This was very welcoming to us. We live in Clairemont, but have seen the same in the Mattamy neighborhood next to Clairemont but at a lower price point. They just built a new high school about 5 miles down the road, and the old high school went through renovations to house the middle school kids. Fort Mill schools are ok as well, but we did not see as much a diverse mix as we did in our neighborhood. However, Clairemont is truly a neighborhood of a lot of people that moved from the north to the south, and from Florida and Texas to here, etc.

My neighborhood is pretty mixed...of 14 total residences, 4 families are African-American. This is in the unincorporated area of Fort Mill too. No problems here. The white and black kids play together and it's not a deal at all, let alone a big one.

Knightsbridge is integrated pretty well, majority caucasion but a good percentage of African Americans (no Latinos that I have seen though). I have not seen any Latino families represented in Fort Mill, but have in Steele Creek (at my daughter's preschool class). My daughter is Guatemalan by birth so this is a bit disappointing.

I will say that she is very striking in a group of her peers. At dance class she is the only child with dark hair. All the rest are tow-headed blondes. Seems like every small child I see in the neighborhood (that are caucasian) are blonde. However, I have not detected in any way any surprise from other parents or any blatant racism (I am caucasian). Everyone seems very accepting of our family.

So, what will that mean for her when she starts school? I don't know. But she has a strong personality and a family who loves her and respects her ethinic roots. This area seems progressive and accepting so I expect the best.
