I live in the city of York and we have recently learned about a planned Rock Quarry beside fishing creek off McFarland Rd. The rock quarry will be on a 300+ acre site and they plan to blast 100 acres of land down to 400 ft initially. They estimate 140 trucks a day, there is a dairy farm directly across the street and there are many houses that are supported by well water. The company plans to drill wells to pump water out of to clean the rock. Fishing Creek is located directly behind the blasting area and that creek runs to several waterways that support the surrounding areas. There are concerns of air quality, specifically breathing in silica from granite mining, foundation issues for homes nearby, noise pollution, road damage and water depletion and pollution. Not only that but the plants and animals on that site will be displaced or destroyed.
There will be a community meeting on Thursday 10/14/21 at 6:30pm at Philadelphia Methodist Church for anyone interested in learning more and trying to help with the issue.
