I will be moving to the area in a couple weeks and I like to sing and dance and have a beer in a comfortable atmosphere. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go? Also are there any good outdoor areas for hiking and such? For bars and trails it is best to get insider information.

Head over to Palmetto Jacks on 521 in Indianland on Thurs nights for karaoke. The place is always packed on Thurs for the karaoke/trivia show. They have a great host named Coco and she does a great job getting the crowd into it. It is between Food Lion and Sun City on 521. They also have great live bands on Friday nights.

Have fun!

For hiking there are several state parks in the vicinity. Kings Mountain is about an hour away, depending on where you live. Also Landsford Canal is really nice. I believe Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill has hiking trails but I have never been. There are so many places to enjoy the outdoors here, you won't ever run out of things to do!

Best thing to do is go to the visitor's center on 77 (south) and get a copy of the "Smiles" book. It has the whole state broken down into regions and lists every attraction, park, etc. that you can imagine. Or check out the SC tourism website. South Carolina tourism official site - South Carolina vacations Hope that helps! Welcome to the area!

Most of the karaoke joints in the upstate, are very small roadside bar kinda places. Some are OK, some are real dives.

The biggest venue I've seen is called Backstage which is a nightclub on Anderson near Cherry, in Rock Hill. It's kinda smoky but draws a large crowd on weekends. They sing about half country and half other stuff.

Beef O Brady in Baxter Village on Friday is pretty good, sometimes crowded and sometimes just the regulars. Also take a look at John's Place or McHale's on Gold Hill Road on Saturdays, between Fort Mill and Tega Cay.

I've tried to get a karaoke club going for the area, I'll admit it's small - but I'd be glad to see some more people join up:
