Just wanted to get a realistic idea of the commute time door to door, during rush hour to uptown. I know it varies when there is an accident but as a general rule. If anyone in particular lives off of W160/Tega Cay that would give me an even better idea. Thanks!
We live off Gold Hill Road (1 exit north) and it takes my fiance around 20 minutes (on average) to make it to the Wachovia building when leaving at 7:30am and coming home around 5:15-5:30ish.
That's not too bad at all. I am currently working in Ballantyne and it takes me about that long, parking isn't an issue. Is he at work by 8 when he leaves at 7:30?
Yes, she gets to work around 8 after grabbing breakfast on the way i.e. Starbucks/Caribou/Chic-Fil-A. She also has a parking pass so parking is not an issue.
Do note that there is really no stopping point. It is a straight shot i.e. no lights, no true traffic build up. You can still go close to the speed limit. The only congestion is where 485 meets 77 (stay in the left lane through this section and you wont even notice it)... nowhere near as bad as traffic going towards Ballaytine on 485 going from somewhere before South Blvd to the other side of the Pineville Mall exit.
Ugh, that side of traffic is horrible! 485 is a mess, fortunately I am going the other way. Thanks for the input. I was concerned about the commute, I am a single mom an just can't do a regular hour long commute.

I think 20 minutes is a little on the side of too low. I live off Gold Hill Rd (almost at the corner of 160 and Gold Hill Rd)
I sit on Gold Hill Rd, 10 to 15 minutes itself just waiting to get on 77 in the morning. Then after that the ride may take 5 to 15 minutes more. It won't be an hour long commute, unless there is the weekly to bi-weekly wreck (one day 2 weeks ago it took me 45 minutes to go 11 miles due to a wreck)
I'd say plan on more like 1/2 hour. I drive it every day. I get home much faster than it takes me to get to work in the morning, simply because of the long line on Gold Hill Rd waiting to get on the freeway in morning rush hour.
If I leave at 7 am, the line is short, if I leave at 7:30 am I wait in a long line.
I do have to say, the intersection at Gold Hill and I-77 does back up much worse than the intersection of 160/I77. I live in Baxter and it takes me exactly 10 minutes to drop my son off at school and get to the intersection of 485/77, then another 10-15 to get to Ballantyne and inside to my desk. I've been doing a temp assignment since the first week of November up there and not once has there been a delay from here to 485, knock on wood. Of course, there is sometimes a bit of a delay around South Blvd.
If you have the choice, it might be better for you to come down 160. I know if you drop kids off at Pleasant Knoll Elementary though, you don't ahve a choice.
If you live in Baxter or around that area it will take you a maximum of 20 minutes to downtown...congestion starts at 485, but it doesn't take long to get through. If you leave before 7:15am, commute should be around 20 minutes...Not bad considering I used to live in South Park and it took about the same time if not longer.
If I leave before 6:30, I can get from Baxter to my parking space near trade and tryon in under 25 minutes. That does not include the walk and elevator ride. At 7:15, it is usually 30+. The ride home anywhere between 4:30-6:30 is around 30 minutes. Considering the times from other locations in this area, these are really good commute times, but it is not 20 minutes door to door.
