There was an article in the Herald the other day and I thought others out there might have the need for this someday.

It has to do with our well traveled Interstate 77. If you ever find yourself in need of help while traveling on Interstate 77 (for example flat tire, out of gas, etc.) there is help our there. The S.C. Department of Transportaion offers (ala...no charge) a response unit that is available by dialing *hp on your cell phone who will then come out and assist you.

In the article it states: A crew of up to 11 men rides up and down I-77 daily in blue trucks with flashing yellow lights looking for stranded motorists in York County. They change flat tires, move vehicles out of traffic or call a tow truck and help direct traffic when accidents occur. The men even bring gas to those whose cars are on "E."

The service is available in York County from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.

If you wish to view the rest of the article it can be found at:

Yes, and NC has something similar IMAP Incident Management Assistance Patrol. Be respectful of these workers; a couple of them have died because of a lot of the idiot drivers here with a cell phone in one hand and a Starbucks in the other.
