1. Daily Pilot

City: Costa Mesa, CA
Category: Relocation
Telephone: (714) 966-4600
Address: 1375 Sunflower Ave.

Description: Launched in 1907 as the Newport News, the Daily Pilot has gone through several name changes since—Newport Harbor Pilot, the Orange County Daily Pilot, and the Newport Beach–Costa Mesa Pilot. Times Mirror, which also owned the LA Times, purchased the paper in 1993 and began packaging it with the LA Times thus eliminating national and world news altogether and concentrating on local news concerning the Newport/Costa Mesa area. Tribune acquired the Daily Pilot, as well as the Los Angeles Times and several other publications, in 2000 and, most recently, Sam Zell purchased Tribune. The Daily Pilot has a circulation of about 30,000 readers and has won many publishing and journalism awards.

2. The Los Angeles Times, Orange County Edition

City: Costa Mesa, CA
Category: Relocation
Telephone: (714) 966-5600
Address: 1375 Sunflower Ave.

Description: The Los Angeles Times remains a force to be reckoned with as it is the last daily paper still standing in Los Angeles, which at one time had daily newspapers in the double digits. Its Orange County edition has all the same news, sports, business, and entertainment coverage as the regular paper, but simply swaps out Los Angeles’s local news with the most current events affecting Orange County. Other than this minor difference, it’s the same paper in both counties. The LA Times main editorial office is in Downtown Los Angeles.
