Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Houston Radio Loses A Longtime Giant

Posted 06-25-2017 at 06:01 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My trips to Houston will never be the same again. And the same holds true for my streamlining. The Bayou City just lost a longtime radio legend a couple of days ago. The legendary Paul Berlin, who in recent years had done some shows spinning old big band and rock tunes on his Saturday night show, died at the age of 86 after a very brief illness, though he'd had some health issues in recent years.

What I remember about him was his work on KBME-AM (790) when it played...

Having Sleep Interrupted By A Lightning Show

Posted 06-25-2017 at 10:37 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Friday night into Saturday this past week proved that, in life, there are no guarantees. That's especially when one tries to get needed sleep for one more work day. At 11:58 p.m. on Friday night, it look one loud crash of lightning to interrupt what had previously been a good day of weather and a good night's sleep (so far), and, thus, proceeded to bring a few hours of change to the weather landscape in North Texas.

You should have seen it. Lightning strikes were...

This Writer Has To Make His Road Trip Go Smoothly

Posted 06-25-2017 at 10:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Funny how, when I make time for road trips, however great or small, something always happens. It's my objective, any time I do a long trip, to have to make sure I have everything and never leave things behind. And on most excursions, at least one thing always gets left behind, and usually, it's something small.

Hopefully, this time around, I won't be too lazy to double-check and triple-check the things I pre-pack before I actually finish the rest of the packing....
