Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: Driscoll Bypass Closer To Completion

Posted 05-23-2022 at 05:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There's still quite a bit to go regarding construction on Interstate 69E from just north of Driscoll to where it almost hits Bishop. It didn't take workers very long to complete the northbound bypass loop around Driscoll (for you whippersnappers, that's just south of Corpus Christi, Texas ), and your writer has just driven on it this past week.

Great stuff is continuing to happen in South Texas. We're just waiting for the southbound bypass to be completed (and that portion...

Austin Has Lost A Huge Radio Legend

Posted 05-22-2022 at 06:18 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The radio airwaves of Austin have been changing for years, and they'll never be the same going forward. Disk jockeys come and go. Some become very successful at the station they program at, and others didn't quite make the grade.

Radio has lost a longtime legend. And I'm sure this fellow will be remembered, not just in Austin, but also in country radio circles all across America. While I was vacationing in Corpus Christi this past Wednesday, this award-winning...

Case's Vacation Journal: Two Songs To Make You Wonder

Posted 05-21-2022 at 08:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Funny how, whenever I turn on SiriusXM and occasionally change channels, there's this timing thing that can happen. And when I was on my way to Corpus Christi from North Texas the other day, I got the perfect case of one song almost being answered by another while playing at the same time.

I didn't want to hear "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones on 60s Gold, so this writer decided to change channels for a few minutes. Lo, and behold, I...

Case's Vacation Journal: Pet Wonders And Faux Pimps

Posted 05-19-2022 at 06:04 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's actually amazing the things you see in everyday life. And vacation time can actually see even the slightest of events turn the humdrum into something memorable.

Not that vacation was actually humdrum, mind you.

Two things gleaned from this latest excursion into Corpus Christi: First glean was seeing me stopped at a stoplight and there was a bearded man sitting on a bench with a homeless sign. He didn't look all that bad, but it's possible that...
