Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Tanya Tucker And Case?? Well, It Was Pretty Close

Posted 01-22-2022 at 04:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

How could it be? Just how could it be that your writer would actually get a few moments and interact with an actual celebrity?

Well, to be fair, that may have been the case with The Case on another social website. Without getting into too much detail, civilians and even famous people happen to be users on that particular website. I happen to also be on it fairly often, and I'm definitely not famous. That site does contain some messaging, and even though I prefer...

It's No Contest Anymore: Lubbock Is Now West Texas' Barbecue Mecca

Posted 01-16-2022 at 02:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Did I not catch this? There's actually another barbecue joint in Lubbock, America, making inroads?? This writer just apparently found out.

Here's the deal, sports fans. Just when we thought the competition in the Hub City (and, really, in Lubbock County) couldn't get more intense, well, there's another BBQ hangout that's flown under our radar. It's been in existence since 2018, and it's in Woodrow. How I found out is that Yellow House Coffee has closed...

Crazy Day At Work While Contending With A Big Bug Fly

Posted 01-14-2022 at 07:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My work day was not really bad, but it could have been much better had someone else previously in the building not let in an uninvited guest. Long story, and because I won't bore you, I won't go there.

That guest of dishonor was a flying bug, larger than the average fly, and although it buzzed, it wasn't a wasp or a bee. And it kept flying near my desk. And on my desk. And on my head. I didn't know that that the area behind my ear had to become an airport....

Fifty Years Since "Emergency!" Made Its Debut On NBC-TV

Posted 01-13-2022 at 07:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Hard to believe already, but it's been quite a bit of time since paramedics became not only a household word, but they would become the new wave of saving lives. Jack Webb and company didn't just start a television show about firefighting, but one about revolutionizing it.

That show was "Emergency!", which began with a pilot episode on January 15, 1972, and then the regular season debut a week later on January 22. Fifty years since our Saturdays were...

I-69 Update: Corpus Christi Finally Updating Their Markers?

Posted 01-13-2022 at 06:00 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As a road fanatic, I often take a good look at the little details to certain things. This writer is a stickler for road signs. And the details of those signs do need to be accurate if they're going to be effective.

I bring this up because the first-ever segment of Interstate 69 opening in the state of Texas occurred on six miles of U.S. Highway 77 on Corpus Christi's western fringes. That was back in 2011. Not too long later, AASHTO and the FHWA had decided on the branches...
