Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting Again / Southwest May Finally Use DFW For Operations

Posted 02-03-2022 at 07:55 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While I end up sitting in my abode unable to head in to work because it's sleeting and snowing in North Texas as I write this, here comes another edition of Scattershooting. Oh, it may be just over six weeks until the spring solstice, but it's looking like Punxsutawney Phil nailed his annual prediction this time around. So, wherever you are, just cozy up to this new chickenscratch and don't accidentally chuck your computer into the fireplace with the blanket and the bath water. ...

Mardi Gras Is In March This Year

Posted 01-27-2022 at 08:41 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Who dat? Fat Tuesday appears like it will be a bit late this time around.

That's right, sports fans, Mardi Gras 2022 will be on the first day of March. We're just so used to having it in February, but the Cajun spice alone will be worth the wait. The folks in New Orleans will be getting things ready while Americans make their long-awaited return to normal after the plandemic spoiled things the last couple of years. Floats and spectators will be hovering about as...

Lubbock's Biggest Growth Year? Could Be This One

Posted 01-27-2022 at 06:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There's been more buzz and more positivism over the last few years up on the Caprock. My last trip to Lubbock, Texas, answered some questions. With the answers I literally saw, there's plenty of reason for optimism.

Now, they still have a ways to go, but their outskirts are seeing new residences going up in the west and south. And I mean, lots of them. Our friend shoe01 rummaged up this following link to Lubbock's NBC station, which just summed up what's been a...

Blast From The Past: Inventors / Remember Ron Popeil?

Posted 01-26-2022 at 07:05 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Whether it was late at night or on a weekday morning when commercials would sometimes be bigger than the actual program itself, television has seen its share of inventors and the gadgets they make.

Well, you remember a chap by the name of Ron Popeil, don't you? Sure, you do. He's the guy who became TV's favorite pitchman. We just lost him last year, but for a long time, he had the knack for making numerous inventions to make all of our lives much easier. Ron...

Ark-La-Tex, Nac Next Up For Your Writer's Upcoming Vacation

Posted 01-24-2022 at 01:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 01-24-2022 at 01:44 PM by case44

I'll be attempting to resurrect a plan originally intended for the middle of last February. It didn't go off because we had a rude interruption to our mild winter with the biggest Arctic blast this writer had ever seen. You know the rest of the story, so I'll move on from that.

Here it comes, one month away, a little more than a year later, and Ol' Case will give it a go again. Gas up that Shark! Time for Case to head to the Ark-La-Tex region, and then on down to...
