In the wake of Hurricane Irene, more than 4 million of our fellow Americans are without power today. Their frozen foods are thawing, but many won't have the means to cook it. Hot water -- or water at all, will be a problem. Today's forecast ranges from high 70s to 90s with no A/C.

God be with our fellow Americans in this time of need. Let those that can reach them with help lend a hand, a heart, a word of prayer.

Though not a Christian Scientist, I've enjoyed the Monitor's articles frequently enough that I like to follow their RSS feeds to see what their take is on situations.

This article captured me for its subtitle, and scanning down through its words I came across this quote that embodies what I've learned so deeply in these past few years: "...the message God imparts to human consciousness is 'Remember that you – and everyone else – are my spiritual image and likeness, actually...

As I listen to the news and commentaries surrounding these issues, I keep going back our our family's personal budget setting. We've kept a budget for more than two decades now, and lived (mostly) to it. Sometimes we have over-runs, but they are made by decision, and only if we have other budget items that can be cut to take the "hit" with these precepts:

1. We face our debt payments. If reduced circumstances cause these to exceed our ability to pay, we would NOT be continuing to

As I read the headlines this morning, I am deeply saddened for the loss of another 93 persons to terrorism.

I pray for cessation of all hatreds in our hearts that we might begin to heal and live in the manner that God intended.

Hatred of others is a flag of a sick heart. Please, let your hatreds die. Do not speak of them and do not nurse them, do not fuel the flames.

Know that hate is only your own fear and resolve it within yourself before you further...
