Fond du Lac, WI: "The people are SO NICE here."

Posted 09-22-2009 at 05:51 AM by LookinForMayberry

Yesterday afternoon while walking Bigun through another residential neighborhood near the fairgrounds where we are camped, my DH repeated this comment for the third time.

He's NEVER made this comment, through over a year of traveling the country, so it's DEFINITELY noteworthy.

It's a great town. I am sure it has its problems, but for "down home," wholesome goodness, it is WAY ahead of any place we've been, so far. The homes are neat and clean, and NOT ostentatious...

Indiscriminate Eating

Posted 09-21-2009 at 04:54 AM by LookinForMayberry

Since getting Bigun over two weeks ago, we've suffered with his loose stools. (Sorry for the graphic, but it's only to explain why we've had to commit this atrocity!)

We learned that beagles are Indiscriminate...

Our Training Waves, Ebb and Flow

Posted 09-19-2009 at 05:58 AM by LookinForMayberry

Yesterday was a BIG training day for us, with lots of lessons. Bigun performed valiantly on the 6' lead, demonstrating his understanding of "no pull" AND "leave it." Later, as we prepared to leave the RV park in Watertown to travel north to Fond du Lac, he showed his progress in "going for a ride" in the Jeep. Not ONCE did he try to crawl into the driver's seat, but remained seated on his side.

Later, here at FdL's fairground camping, he got to go run...

Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin -- Oh My!

Posted 09-17-2009 at 04:34 AM by LookinForMayberry

After YEARS of trying to get my husband to consider relocating to the Midwest, I was shocked at his reactions to walking about Indianapolis. As we were descending the stairs from the Main Library, he turns to me and says: "I don't know about you, but I think we can add this to the Mayberry list."

I nearly fell down the stairs!

He felt the same about Chicago, after his day trip into town from Elgin, and again, yesterday, while we visited Milwaukee. He adds:...

Breaking Habits, Starting Anew

I love listening to Pema Chodron, a western Buddhist monk that teaches the way to Enlightenment. I am currently in the midst of listening to her discuss True Happiness.

So many lessons, so little time. Why could I not come to the point I am now, back when? Why ask why? Here's where I am, now. Let the baggage fall where it may.

My biggest failing is apparently Critical Mind, peppered with a good deal of Pride, Gluttony, and Sloth. What a combination! Still,...
