Bill Murray was Right: "It Just Doesn't Matter."

Posted 08-15-2009 at 07:21 AM by LookinForMayberry

I forget the movie where Bill coaches his team of misfits prior to the Big Game, but the central theme is: "Even if God lines up on YOUR side of the Field .... it JUST DOESN'T Matter."

My husband kept a recording of that pep talk to play to himself for decades. It used to BUG me to NO END. Of course IT MATTERS! EveryTHING MATTERS!! my tortured brain would scream out at me in denial. THIS (anything and everything) MATTERS.

What a dolt I was then. God/Allah/Brahma...

One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, WITH Liberty AND Justice

Posted 08-14-2009 at 04:01 AM by LookinForMayberry

I read one young man's editorial urging Americans to stop the name-calling and vilification of those that hold opinions contrary to ours. He urged that we speak our truth, voice our concerns, and work with our opponents to forge a way that works to the nation's best interests. As I read, I was reminded of the audio book we'd...

Aizen, Wisdom King of Passion, Fighting Ignorance

Posted 08-12-2009 at 11:33 AM by LookinForMayberry

We visited Boston's MFA yesterday. They have some great Indo-Asian statuary exhibits. I came across this one, my photo below, theirs here. He's a 14th century Japanese Buddhist diety, resolved to conquer ignorance.

Looks like he's failed, darn it.

I start feeling a lot like he looks, when I get frustrated with situations where I THINK I KNOW BETTER.

Boy, am I stupid during those times.

A true wise person knows they know nothing. How can we? Most...

Just Whining....

Posted 08-10-2009 at 01:47 PM by LookinForMayberry

Used to be I could spend an entire day, sun up to sun down: gardening, hiking, biking. My eyes were keen at any distance. My legs were like pistons. I'd forget to eat I was so into my day.

Being 53 isn't like that, for me. Oh sure, I can go out and power walk my three miles with the others. But then I am down for the rest of the morning.

Strangely, slow walking is harder -- oh my aching back.

I used to laugh at my older friends and family members. I was so...

Vermont in Review

We've enjoyed the scenic beauty of its rolling pastures, wooded highlands, and streaming waters. We've loved the old buildings, dams, and waterfronts. We've appreciated the street art, the storefronts, and it's definitely a book lover's paradise!

What has confused us is the people. Admittedly, we've noticed since Virginia that as we move north the public reception has gone from the Southern smiling greeting: "Hi, how're ya?" to a reserved nod, and in Maine the nod's disappeared...
