This blog is basically to chart my progress in trying to lose weight...

This is a Record of my daily events including my family when appropriate for my other family members to see if they choose to.

This is my legacy, for my family to read after I am dead and burried. So, any thing on here is meant for them only and if it offends anyone, my apologies, but, its not meant for you and them

Chow for now...

May the LORD Bless all who see this.

I wish you well...

Cement

Posted 06-18-2013 at 12:23 PM by woodworkingmenace

We poured the cement yesterday, and it was quite an experience.

The day before, I didnt have enough people coming, incase the cement truck couldnt get the tube into the window, to pour into my Son's Room. (doing the entire dirt floor, then putting the frame and floor back in later).

So, I called my Brother's Kids to see if they would come and help. (I had already told my Dad that I would pay them, and they happened to mention it when my Son was walking them them in the Cemetary, so I figured that they would be here, but, I called to be sure anyways. Well, got ahold of my nephew, and he said he would call me later that night.
He didnt. So, I called him and he never answered the phone.
So, I got desperate and called a friend of my Son, and didnt get ahold of him. By this time, Im panicking, cause my Wife is on my case BAD...

My Son's Friend calls back, at 11:30, and my Son takes it and walks into the kitchen. Now, my Son is 'loud' on the phone, and he is right outside my Daughters room, and she comes out and goes 'off' on him!! Both barrels, she is coming at him, swearing up a storm, cussing his friend out, (whom she hates with a passion anyways), and forces him to go into the bathroom to talk to his friend. Im trying to calm her down and get her back to bed, cause she has to be up at 4:30am.

Well, the morning of the pour, my Son goes after the 'float', and his friend. both return in time for the pour.

Instead of doing the patio first, he does the room, so we dont know how much concrete he has left in the truck, and then starts the patio.

We dont float the room, cause its getting burried under a floor, but, the patio gets floated. I try to teach the kids how to use the float, (an aluminum pad with long poles to float it across the concrete), and I was doing it wrong as usual, (been 26+ years since I did my Mother in Laws basement, and it turned out beautifully-->one solid pour for a basement 30X30 feet!).

The guy from the concrete truck shows the boys what I was doing wrong and they float the crete nicely.

Problem is, half the concrete is white, and half is like I sprayed clear coat over the crete??? Its already a full day, and it should all be white by now, so I am really curious about that.

And, I even put our last name and the date it was poured with my fingers LOL...(I would have given the kids a lot of grief if they had done that when they were kids, and here I dod it now LOL..probably my last time at being able to do this in crete anyways, cause I dont expect to ever do it again, at any time).

As for my Brother's Kids, I will never try to gain thier help in anything I do again. I will hire from someplace, if I have to put an ad on facebook or the newspaper, before I ask for thier help again! I hate slackers....

My Son and his friend busted thier buns for me, and I paid well, and it was worth it.
Shame, you cant find really good help these days. Whats with this modern age anyways? sheesh

I wish you well...

I still remember a cartoon from years ago that showed a man sitting in a lawn chair and reading the Sat. paper. In the background was was a cement truck dumping a load of cement
in his prepared driveway. The wife is saying," dear you had better smooth out the cement." and he calls back, " don't rush me, I've got to finish the paper first."
Sounds like you got the smoothing out done first! Don't know about the color.
