High School Reunion

High school reunions are fun and I've attended several. My hometown is near a large lake which has a lodge visited by many from around the world and that's where our annual reunion is held on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. We all know no matter where we are, it is an event on that particular weekend and verification is not needed. Reservations for the banquet are the only requirement, but can even be obtained if one is late.
I attended the first three after graduation, then didn't for a few years, but the 30th for my class was scheduled and I went. Seeing so many old classmates was a total delight and a great weekend. Saturday morning of that weekend, there was a reception at the residence of a classmate. Someone standing behind me commented Rubi is on something. Someone else said, no, she isn't. The only thing I was on was caffeine, having had too many cups of coffee.
A few minutes later, I saw a classmate and his wife standing in the bathroom and took that opportunity to speak with them. A voice called out, "Where is Jim?" I responded, "He's in the bathroom with his wife and I'm also there." I try to go for the laugh.
Several noticed there were no gathering of cliques among us and we all made a point of visiting with everyone there. Our class had 60 graduate, so it wasn't like a gargantuan school where there were so many it wasn't possible to know everyone.
My only complaint has always been about the food served at the banquet. The broiled chicken is dry and tough. No exceptions. The green beans flavorless and the dessert mediocre. I'm not a picky eater, but I think the food at the lodge could be much tastier, but it never is and is way over-priced.
Since our class would be spotlighted at our 50th, it was special and efforts were made to have as many attend as possible. From the original number of 60, 16 were deceased, but on the appointed date, out of the remaining 44, all but 6 were there. Who would think such a get together could be such fun? It was so great and we knew it may not ever be the same in the future. We will see.
One classmate who had been widowed met up with someone from another year who was also alone due to a death and they ended up a year later married to each other. There had been 5 members were were usually very heavy drinkers at earlier reunions. Three had died and two were finally on the wagon, apparently able to put their demons to sleep. One woman couldn't remember much, but her husband brought her and it was good to see her still managing a lot. Most of those who married high school sweethearts were still together, which I thought was amazing.

Hey, I've got a reunion, too! It's this Saturday, and it is my 30th.
