Three Problems that Persist

Posted 08-21-2014 at 12:24 PM by Fortoggie

Way back in 1902 the editor of the State Chronicle in N. C. said that there were three problems that kept the south from bouncing back after war.
1. The first was the race problem. It had been 37 years since the civil war ended but for the south it had not ended. Blacks were still abused and even hanged in large numbers. Fast forward to 2014 and the blacks are still held in place and if they don't like it then their place will be jail. [Think Ferguson,Mo.]
2. Second was and is the reactive politics of the south. The writer went on to say that the southern politician had " pickled " the south at 1830 and wouldn't open the jar.
3. Third was the preachers, born and raised in the south and very much of the southern mind set the preachers upheld and reinforced the other two problems. That was of course written 112 years ago and yes the south has had a lot of change but when you look under the surface you can still see enough of these three problems to understand that we ain't going nowhere fast!
