Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Frisco Playoff Football: Only One Still Stands

Posted 11-15-2014 at 05:44 AM by case44

Well, what a difference one playoff game can make. And that can be looked at three ways here. In District 9-5A (Texas), the high school playoff picture was thought to be rosy for two teams (Centennial and Wakeland). What we have here now is an unpleasant surprise if you're a fan of the aforementioned Titans and Wolverines. Frisco had three schools make it to the playoffs, two that were expected to make it (Guess who? The previously-mentioned two) and one that surprised a lot of people (Heritage).

So, it's the Heritage Coyotes (the district's co-champ with Wakeland) who advance to the next round of the playoffs after a wild win, 77-63, over Wylie East. As for Centennial and Wakeland, well, they'll have to go home after first-round losses, and the latter's defeat was only by a field goal. The way things finished during the regular season was, perhaps, the wildest race in Dallas-Fort Worth. Lone Star and Frisco tied Centennial with a 5-3 district record, and they even had better season records than the Titans did, but they had to stay home because of a loss each to Centennial. And Wakeland actually had their best season record ever (8-2 in the regular season, 6-2 in district), despite losses to Heritage and Lone Star. The Wolverines deserved better in the first round, but could generate enough offense in what was a defensive battle against McKinney North.

Heritage is the one Frisco school left playing. This has been their best season in school history, and they should get credit for playing very well, as their offensive unit has been very proficient at protecting the football and moving it down the field. A heartfelt congratulations to the Coyotes for a nice season of football. Represent Frisco well.

It's been a fun year for Frisco football, to say the least. I'm looking forward to next fall as the city's rivalries continue their storylines.

By the way, here's a good resource for the Texas high school football fan.
