Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: AASHTO Green-Lights New Spur Designation

Posted 06-15-2015 at 03:37 PM by case44

Yes, more road news from The Casester. This time, it's Interstate 69 and all that it contains, and we have an update from Brownsville. The folks at AASHTO have given a designation to the new toll spur (currently Texas Highway 550) heading into the Port of Brownsville from Olmito. Coming off of I-69E will be..........

.....................Interstate 169.

There you are, sports fans. That's another designation in all the components of the Texas I-69 network. Right now, I-169 will be just a mile and a half long in expressway length, but when the rest of the road is finished, it will be ten miles altogether. Good news for Valley workers and shippers trying to get goods back and forth from other cities and ports. In addition, my next vacation is planned to be at South Padre Island once again, and checking out the roads and the new signs will be among the things I'll be doing.

Now, we must wait on a designation for the Freer-to-Corpus Christi spur (Texas Highway 44) to interstate status. Not sure what the timetable will be on that just yet, so stay tuned. I mentioned in a previous post about a possible future freeway from Woodsboro to Corpus and on down to Kingsville. If anything should happen on either of those two things, then you'll be hearing about it here.

By now, the Rio Grande Valley should have all the mile markers, exit numbers (with new signage for the intended guide signs), ground-level assurance markers for the freeways and the feeders, and updates on the overhead guides all taken care of, as it's been two years since the interstate changes became law down there.

When we get to October, I may even see some new signage for 169, as well. Should be very interesting.
