Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Over The Hill Or Spring Chicken? The Choice Is Mine
Posted 07-05-2016 at 08:20 PM by case44
Hey, I could just stay in denial until the cows come home to be eaten at my dinner table. Then again, I can pretend that I'm 29 and the last twenty years have been an illusion.
At this writing, it is T-minus 11 days and some 15 hours until your writer turns fifty years young. I really don't want to be old, but my body is just not what it once was. Getting older is, perhaps, a state of mind. Youth would have to be a state of mind, too. The cards and e-mails will soon be pouring in. Already, I've gotten a card from my own mom, and she put the most touching words I've read on any card, any time. Not sure if my cube at work will be decorated by a trusted friend or not, but I don't want balloons. And in due time, a birthday party will be thrown in my honor at a local restaurant where many cows do come home to roost. Several family members are expected to be on hand.
Am I a spring chicken? That largely depends on the point of view from one individual to the next. Am I over the hill? If fifty is the new forty, then logic must suggest that I'm still a spring chicken. I've got people at work twenty years my senior that say that I'm not old (though those words are not really used). Oh, and what gifts am I getting? Hopefully, not a year's supply of Geritol. If I had my way, it'd be three girls popping out of a cake. Really. One brunette, one blonde, and one redhead.
Suffice it to say, I can always joke about being over the hill, to the chagrin of those older than I am. There's a reason that my fingers which are doing the walking don't have this thing which I pronounce arthuritis.
