Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Turning Over A New Leaf In Fall

Posted 09-24-2016 at 12:42 PM by case44

Here we go once again with more here and more there in this haven of readership which we call Case's Column. Fall is officially in the air, so if you're ready for a gathering around our computer campfire, then make sure you have plenty of marshmallows.

********

Well, you know it's fall when we start sayings like cold front as opposed to cool front. Fall become official on Thursday, and football is well underway. My Texas Longhorns might not be playing, but that won't keep me from peeking at other games that might be going on. It's always a thrill going up and down my radio dial to hear the announcers of different games being played at the time. Even though my work situation is changing, the real schedule doesn't kick in for about a month, and, so, I will have Saturdays off and will have the opportunity to listen and watch some fine college football.

Not just that is happening, but those who are waiting for temperatures to cool off are finally getting their respite from the heat as the holidays loom ever so much closer. School is high gear. Leaves will soon be falling from trees in some parts of the country. All the more reason to believe that we're turning over a new leaf, and a new season is in earnest.

Here's something I didn't previously know but probably should have: actor/singer John Stamos has been playing occasionally with The Beach Boys. So much so, that I'm amazed he hasn't actually joined the group. I never even realized that it was he who put the vocals on the tune "Forever", which was recorded by The Beach Boys in 1992. Since then, Stamos had been a regular with these guys whenever they do their summer tours.

Ladies, how do you like to cut your hair? How would you want to cut your hair? Here, now, is a link to some ideas for doing the do.

The Houston Astros appear to be fading from the American League Wild Card race. They've had the Los Angeles Angels' number all year (as well as the last few), but they've now lost two in a row to them in Houston going into this very writing. Doesn't look too good for these guys, and there will be some decisions to be made in the offseason if their campaign ends during the regular season.

Sirius XM's Cousin Brucie (longtime New York jock Bruce Morrow) is going to emcee the final night of the annual San Genarro Feast in New York City. The event will be playing on 60s on 6 this evening, and, hopefully, I'll get to catch some of that.

By the way, if you ever to listen to The Cuz during some of his broadcasts, do you notice anything consistently curious? On some recent Wednesday "Cruisin'" broadcasts, he'll sometimes mention all the deejays who work for 60s on 6 whenever he tells listeners to listen in. Well, not quite all of them. He'll mention everybody except Dave Hoeffel, who has Brucie's time slot on those other nights when The Cuz is not on. What does Brucie have against Hoeffel?

There is some debate as to whether or not to refrigerate eggs. Depending on the situation and how the eggs "follow the process", maybe it's better to be safe now rather than sorry later.

2016 has proven to be the most violent year in American history. We have a federal government that simply refuses to protect its own citizens, all the while discouraging the efforts of local police forces. Whether it's been accomplished by ISIS or some kook out of control, there doesn't seem to be a week that would go by without seeing some news on a national basis about an incident involving multiple people and the harm being inflicted.

I swear, this presidential election will not come soon enough. I am ready to vote for Donald Trump, and hopefully, a lot of you out there are, too. We badly need peace, law, and order in America.

Idle thought, however: Why would any government want to enforce law by taking it away?

Another musical group I'm about to bring you in this venue is looking into Vegas to set up their latest gig..........with a little more regularity.

For once and for all, there may finally be a resolution in Houston on how to repurpose the former Astrodome. Maybe they won't need to tear it down. Take a look:

As I think about two preachers who are now in their 80s, two pastors who have served in the ministry for as long as they have, one would have to wonder if the churches in which they serve have a younger person waiting in the wings to take their places.

I'm talking about, of course, Chuck Swindoll of Stonebriar Community Church (Frisco, TX), and Ed Young of Houston's Second Baptist Church. Both have been shepherding flocks for many years, and they seem to be showing signs of slowing down. You know they're not going to be in the pulpit forever, but certainly, you'd think God would be impressing upon each congregation to have someone ready to lead this generation and those to come when you think about the future. Who's ready to take on what would be a monumental task in each outfit? And both are very large churches, and quite influential, too.

I noticed something in the night sky last night in Dallas. The Bank of America building in the city's downtown no longer has that green color in the skyline's 'scape. They've changed to a peach lining now. Looks good, but I still miss the green.

********

You might also miss the green when the leaves start to turn brown. Yep, fall is here. Enjoy it while it lasts.

And there you are.
