Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

More Scattershooting / Getting In The Spirit With An Ugly Sweater

Posted 12-15-2019 at 08:33 PM by case44

While you all are still making your lists and checking them thrice, your writer is back with more Scattershooting in this cozy arcade known as Case's Column. So much to look at and never enough time to do it. This is a short Christmas season, and, so, if I were you, I'd procrastinate later on.

********

This coming Wednesday (as of this writing), the people at work are putting on Ugly Sweater Day. Needless to say, I'm prepared for it. And with it will come a contest on Dayside and on Nightside to see who gets to be the winner. Not sure, though, what the prize is yet. That is, if there is one, but it doesn't matter. Nothing like a little recognition for a tad bit of craziness. What I'll be wearing is a red sweater that looks a little worn around the edges, with perhaps, the most tacky, multi-colored Christmas tree design possible.

It's perfect!

Amid all the other celebrations we've done, this will be a great climax to an incredible year. Ugly sweaters. I mean, who goes around wearing them at your favorite Christmas party? Maybe not, as many tend to opt for nicer things, but I digress. Best of all, there will be pictures for the branch newsletter when the powers that be actually have something to put together. Our peeps who brought their sweaters can be in the group pic. Still, the event will be fun. Annual events such as this are a time when you can bring out the best in others. I can think of only one person at work who can beat everybody. His name will not be revealed, and I'll just call him CB. He just goes way out of his way every year, no matter if it's Halloween or Christmas. Will CB be beaten this year?

I'll keep you posted on that one.

Beware of overly-generous restaurant-goers? Not if you happen to be two twin sisters about to get the biggest gift their stockings have ever had.

Frisco (Texas) may actually see the stagnant and dormant Wade Park project finally see a little light. Gamma Real Estate wants to make sure that any new plans for this district be done the right way. After going into foreclosure which clouded the future of this development, we might actually see something come out of this. https://www.bisnow.com/dallas-ft-wor...ia-area-101703

Let's face it: We've got an historic President. No matter how much of the media and other opposition forces seek to undermine the presidency of Donald J. Trump, he just keeps on winning. That's what people are drawn to. When you've got someone who is not a politician, who is not even part of the establishment, and someone who is a businessman, then you're seeing results unlike anyone has seen, and that includes Ronald Reagan. People are going back to work in record numbers. Jobs previously sent overseas have since been brought back. The dollar is as strong as ever. More than 150 judges have been added to the judiciary. We've had two new Supreme Court justices appointed, with a possibility of maybe two more in the future.

President Trump can't do it alone, folks. He's going to need people who will stand with him in getting America back on track after too many years of careless government. Given the way things have been with this phony-baloney impeachment nonsense (which, really, wasted everyone's precious time), the Democrat Party may end up losing House seats and maybe even a few Senate seats in the election to come. It's not enough anymore just to be a Republican. A candidate must support this President and mean it. That's why 2020 is so crucial.

When it comes to wedding receptions, you always hope that the bouquet tossed ends up falling in the right hands. But you've probably never experienced this sort of thing happening.

Breaking news from Houston: Astros broadcaster Steve Sparks had suffered a heart attack this past week in Sugar Land. At least, he was in the right place when he'd already been driven to Houston Methodist Sugar Land after having experienced vomiting following a workout. More in the following link:

Sparky's doing really well, folks. Thoughts and prayers continue toward a speedy recovery.

More baseball tidbits:

Chuck Morgan, P.A. voice of the Texas Rangers, will have a new perch at the new Globe Life Field. It will actually be right off the main concourse and he'll have closer access to the fans. Can't wait to see how that turns out. And can you believe that this guy is closing in on forty years as the P.A. guy in Rangerville? This will be his third stadium to work in for the same ballclub after moving to North Texas in 1983 after working at the legendary WSM-AM (650) in Nashville.

Corey Kluber will be wearing a Rangers uniform in 2020. He came in from the Indians in exchange for outfielder Delino DeShields, Jr., and will work with a 2-year deal.

Madison Bumgarner will be donning an Arizona Diamondbacks uni in '20. This one is a five-year deal.

Oh, and did you see where part of the roof at Globe Life Field caught fire this weekend? Sure did. Fire crews acted quickly and snuffed that scene out.

And the waiting game continues for others like Josh Donaldson, Dallas Keuchel, and Francisco Lindor.

Imagine Grease forty-one years later. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are back. For now, anyway, as a reunion was taking place in Florida.

Notable deaths include:

Danny Aiello, who played in a number of gangster movies, as well as Do The Right Thing and Moonstruck. He was 86 and just had a brief illness.

Rene Auberjonois, late of Star Trek and Benson, passed away from cancer this week. He was 79.

Radio legend Bruce Morrow can't seem to make up his mind whether he wants to do his customary "Love Hour" on his Saturday Night Party on 60s on 6. You know how he's known for his love of his listeners. Okay, nothing wrong with that. But you've got to be on time when the half-hour mark in the fourth hour comes up. Sooner or later, Cousin Brucie, something has to end.

Why not just make the Love Hour a full hour? You'll get to play your favorite love tunes (and Brucie can sometimes really dig deep into the doo-wop collection, as some of those 1950s-era songs that get played, I've heard for the first time on that program). You'll get to do it for an hour, Brucie. Listeners get more of the maximum benefit on the heels of the Saturday Night Party. Come on, Cuz. How 'bout it? Couples even get to mess around in the back seat for more time.

It's either he expand the thing or he should drop it. When you're going all the way to 11:46 pm Eastern time, and you've still got a 29-minute segment to be done, there's a real problem. You've dropped other things, Brucie, from your Wednesday show. You're 84. Perhaps you now need to make a decision with your Saturday show.

Here's a real whopper for you. Pun intended, by the way, since it's Burger King. What's going to be more important to customers, getting a movie they haven't seen spoiled, or get a free Whopper??

And here's hoping that all of you out there have the best Christmas season you can possibly have. Many great wishes and many happy returns. And stick around for a great big calendar change, too.

All the best, dear readers!

And there you are.

Not included in this Scattershooting was the unfortunate choice of this year's Person of the Year by TIME magazine (And, by the way, does any sane person still buy that rag?). This shows we've lost it as a society. What constructive thing has this Greta Thunberg creature contributed to our culture this past year? So, now, if we don't believe her riff-raff about "climate change", then we should be executed.

    No joke.

    Um, not gonna happen....
