Relocating takes patience and organization....

Posted 06-20-2011 at 03:25 PM by tanmctee

The job has been accepted and it is time to work toward a new address and experience a change of scenery.

This can be a daunting and heart pounding experience for some. For others it is the thrill of a challenge with new hurdles to jump. Still others are HAVING to move due to economic, weather or family related issues.

Whatever your reason for making a move, the relocation process can be made easier if you include a few simple steps.

1. Contact the Chamber of Commerce in the community where you are moving -- you can do this on-line and will find many valuable tools.

2. Use online mapping resources to get a feel for where the new office will be located. Look at what is in and around the area.

3. If you can, take the time to visit for one weekend before making a decision on address, ask a real estate agent to show you around (even if you do not intend to buy right away, most agents are willing to help you get acquainted with the community)

4. If you cannot take the time to visit, talk to the Human Resource Director at your new job and ask about apartment or condominiums nearby...they will usually steer you in the right direction

5. Using City-data.com is a great place to ask questions about an area and learn more information --- there are helpful people in the communities who are ready to provide information

6. Yard Sale --- you have talked about it for a long time; however, now you can do it. Clear out the clutter, make a little extra cash and start fresh without the extra baggage

7. Make a list --- seems simple, but many people do not do it and then forget about key items needing accomplished. Turn off power, change mailing address, register cars in new location and so on.....if you make a list and check it off as each thing is done, the entire process will seem less overwhelming

Take it all in stride! When you get to your new location, go out and drive around, experience the area. Go to some events, visit the library (an amazing resource) and simply ENJOY!!!

Good luck with your move and if it is to the Reno-Sparks, NV area....WELCOME!!!
