Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Back From San Antonio, And A Great Time At Fiesta
This road trip just completed had turned out to be a relatively short one, but it'll do me good for right now. Got to spend a little time in San Antonio and the Riverwalk on a crowded Friday night. For the past week and a half, the city has done this yearly ritual called Fiesta, in which many residents celebrate different cultures (with parades, usually) while commemorating heroes of the Alamo. My arrival there was Thursday, but your writer wishes that this excursion would last about three weeks.
Okay, so it wasn't going to be quite that long. But any time is a good time to just get away.
I even got to explore the city, but, heck, I do that anyway. Man, that Loop 1604 on the west side is growing like a weed. It seems like everybody wants to live out there, as so much dirt is being turned, houses and businesses are built, and Bill Miller Barbecue keeps putting a store on seemingly every corner. Good weather. Good food. Lots of good food. Got to try Casa Rio for the first time. Very fine place with terrific chili con carne, nice and chunky. I stopped in at the usual Jim's, as well as the obligatory Alamo Cafe and Sea Island Shrimp House. Another stop I made was to the Pearl Entertainment District, right by the old Pearl Beer brewing facility. Quite a find. And I had good accommodations, but it was a wee bit challenging. My hotel was right in the middle of a vast construction zone, as U.S. Highway 281 is getting its long-awaited expansion from divided highway to a full-fledged freeway with all the trimmings. This writer cannot wait for its completion, to be in about two years.
The thing that was the most cool, out of everything I saw, was the commemoration of 300 years of San Antonio, which the city is celebrating this year. Banners telling visitors of this historic achievement are all over downtown and its ads appear on some of the city's buses. Nevertheless, your favorite blogger had a wonderful time. Always a fine place to visit.
